Job Description:

Airbus UpNext is looking for a Lead On-board Mission Software Developer -CI/CD & Modern Practices to explore 5G Non-Terrestrial-Network capabilities based on space platforms.

Our objective is to explore many new technologies and to support the strategic ambitions of Airbus. As such, be prepared for a wild ride, digging into unconventional ways of working, and be ready for many pivots throughout, as we will explore the unknown!

This position is based in Toulouse ( between Labège and Saint Martin), and you will collaborate with teams across Europe and an international partnership landscape.

This job comes with a 3 year CDI-C contract (a French project-based permanent contract tied to the duration of this demonstrator' mission - end of June 2028).

Missions

In this role, you will be the driving force for software quality and development velocity, ensuring our code is built, tested, and deployed with cutting-edge efficiency. By being an On-board Mission Software Engineer, you will:

  • Contribute significantly to the design and development of key functions for the complex on-board mission software.

  • Develop, test, and validate software components to run on an embedded platform featuring ARM processors and FPGAs.

  • Design, implement, and maintain a robust CI/CD pipeline using tools like GitLab and Jenkins to ensure software quality and development velocity.

  • Interface with platform teams to integrate with core system APIs, including those based on gRPC.

  • Contribute to technology trade-offs, weighing the use of established languages like C/C++ against the exploration and implementation of modern alternatives such as Rust.

Key Challenges You Will Tackle:

  • Implementing and evangelizing modern CI/CD workflows for a complex, resource-constrained embedded aerospace environment.

  • Ensuring the reliability and performance of automated builds and tests for hardware-in-the-loop systems.

  • Driving the adoption of new technologies and languages like Rust within a safety-conscious development culture.

What you bring:

  • Strong experience in systems programming with languages like C/C++.

  • Experience building and managing CI/CD pipelines.

  • Knowledge of Yocto-based Linux and developing for resource-constrained environments.

  • Familiarity with API frameworks like gRPC/Protobuf.
