Here at The Exploration Company, we are developing, producing, and operating Nyx, a modular and reusable space orbital vehicle that can eventually be refuelled in orbit and that can carry cargo - and potentially humans in the longer run.
We want you as a talented Combustion Devices Computational Engineer to help us in our mission by developing rocket engines using computational engineering, rapidly accelerating the design process by skipping manual intervention and implementing automated processes over the whole engine development.
Instead of designing components in traditional CAD software, computational engineering is about developing computer programs that generate those parts automatically. This only works if the underlying physical models and design rules are clearly defined and suitable for the application. As computational engineer, your role is to create and improve models that generate rocket engine's components like, besides others, combustion chambers and injection heads to be manufactured using additive manufacturing.
Key Responsibilities
In your capacity as a Combustion Devices Computational Engineer, your role will be continuously evolving, but day to day your duties will include:
create computational engineering models of rocket engines using PicoGK (About PicoGK | LEAP 71)
design combustion device components and subcomponents
this may include combustion chambers, injection elements, injections heads and thrust chamber assemblies
be in close collaboration with the stakeholders of the other propulsion sub-teams to ensure optimal results
be in close collaboration with your team, ensuring interfaces between physical and computational models work
be in close collaboration with the MAIT team to ensure manufacturability using additive manufacturing
What we would love to see from you
In the role of Combustion Devices Computational Engineer ideally, you will have the following:
Masters degree in aerospace / mechanical engineering / computational engineering science or similar
Related experience in designing or operating combustion devices
Related experience in design for additive manufacturing (DfAM)
Object-oriented programming experience (ideally C# or Java)
(Plus: Experience with computational / algorithmic engineering, e.g. using PicoGK)
Strong engineering fundamentals in fluid dynamics and thermodynamics
Good understanding of structural design and analysis principles
Ability to work independently and the corresponding communication skills
High motivation and the grit to get the job done
Why you should join us!
What makes us special here at The Exploration Company and why we think you will enjoy working here is:
We’re Agile - we make decisions fast whilst keeping our goals and systems in mind
We’re Open and Collaborative - we are transparent about risks and obstacles, so that we can cooperate to overcome them
We have a lot of Fun - we refuel our energy knowing we are democratising space. It’s a wonderful and rare opportunity, are YOU up for the challenge?
We'd love to hear from you if you wish to be a part of our journey. Please submit your CV now for immediate consideration and we will be in touch shortly.
