Overview
We are seeking a knowledgeable and proactive Desktop Support Technician to join our IT support team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong foundation in computer networking and desktop support, with the ability to troubleshoot software and hardware issues effectively. This role requires excellent customer service skills, as you will be the first point of contact for technical support inquiries. You will work in a dynamic environment, assisting users with various operating systems including Microsoft Windows and macOS.
Duties
- Provide technical support for desktop and laptop computers, including troubleshooting hardware and software issues.
- Assist users with Microsoft Office applications and other software tools.
- Manage user accounts through Active Directory and provide VPN access as needed.
- Maintain and configure network settings, including TCP/IP, DNS, and firewall configurations.
- Utilise tools such as SCCM for software deployment and updates.
- Respond to help desk tickets using systems like BMC Remedy, ServiceNow, or Jira.
- Conduct analysis of recurring issues to identify solutions and improve processes.
- Collaborate with team members to ensure efficient operation of IT services across the organisation.
- Provide guidance on best practices for computer networking and security protocols.
Requirements
- Proven experience in desktop support or a similar IT support role.
- Strong understanding of computer hardware, operating systems (Windows, macOS, Linux), and networking principles (LAN/WAN).
- Familiarity with technical support tools such as SCCM, BMC Remedy, ServiceNow, or Jira.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to convey technical information clearly to non-technical users.
- Strong analytical skills for troubleshooting complex issues effectively.
- Knowledge of firewall configurations, VPNs, TCP/IP protocols, and DNS management is highly desirable.
- A customer-oriented approach with a commitment to providing exceptional service.
