Mission:
As Environmental Governance Lead, you will play a pivotal role in shaping and driving the operationalization of Opella’s environmental governance across functions (HSE, R&D, Procurement, Risks) translating global ambitions into policies, controls, and actions plans. With a strong emphasis on climate, circular economy, water stewardship and biodiversity, this role combines strategic foresight, cross-functional influence, and expert governance leadership and drive cross-functional alignment and delivers measurable business impact . You will support the integration of sustainability into business processes and decision-making, drive environmental risk management, and help ensure Opella’s long-term competitiveness, aligned with our B Corp journey and Net Zero ambitions.
Key Responsibilities
  • Strategy Development:
Co-design and evolve Opella’s corporate environmental strategy across operations and value chain topics (climate, circularity, water, biodiversity), ensuring it is actionable and aligned with global science-based targets, local realities, and regulatory frameworks.
  • Governance & Policy Implementation:
Lead the deployment of group-wide ESG governance frameworks, policies, standards, procedures, decision-making protocols and escalation paths, ensuring operationalization across functions.
  • Sustainability Strategic Plan and Budget
Act a primary liaison with Finance to integrate the financial impacts of the sustainability roadmap into the multi-year strategic plan and annual budget cycle. In collaboration with Finance, ensure sustainability budget alignment, monitor allocations and initiatives progress, proactively identify risks and gaps to deliver Opella’s environmental targets.
  • Climate Risk & Resilience Leadership:
Lead the integration climate-related physical and transition risks into corporate planning, operations, and investment processes, in line with TCFD/ISSB expectations and evolving regulations.
  • Cross-Functional Strategic Partnering:
Act as a senior advisor to management governance , R&D, Packaging, Procurement, Marketing, Legal and Finance teams to embed sustainability into innovation, sourcing, risk management and brand strategies.
  • External Engagement & Representation:
Represent Opella’s environmental leadership in ESG ratings, B Corp assessments, sectoral coalitions (e.g., CDP, EcoVadis, NGO partnerships) and regulatory dialogues.
  • Strategic Foresight & Benchmarking:
Anticipate emerging trends (e.g., TNFD, Scope 3 risks, circular economy legislation) and translate insights into governance updates, strategy refinements, and stakeholder positioning.
Profile
Education:
Master’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Policy, Sustainability Management, or a related field.
Experience:
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in ESG, environmental governance, or sustainability strategy roles, ideally in FMCG, healthcare, consulting, or industrial sectors.
  • Proven ability to drive policy implementation and cross-functional execution.
  • Demonstrated expertise in regulatory frameworks (CSRD, TCFD, TNFD, SBTi, ISO 14001) and material environmental topics (GHG, circularity, water, biodiversity).
  • Fluent in English and French is a nice to have

Skilled in designing, deploying and optimizing corporate ESG governance systems across multiple business functions.

Experienced in leading complex multi-stakeholder projects, ensuring operational impact and performance tracking.
  • Influence & Collaboration:
Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills to engage senior leaders, build coalitions, and drive change across diverse teams.
  • Environmental Subject Matter Expertise:
Recognized expertise in climate risk, circular economy, water stewardship, or biodiversity management.
