Our Team:
Our team is in charge of the deployment of HSE programs across the organization, from development centers to internal/external manufacturing sites and commercial operations.

Main responsibilities:
Job purpose
Opella has developed its sustainability strategy called the “Sustainable Care Pledge”. The “Healthy Planet” pillar is designed to evaluate and limit direct and indirect impacts of our operations on the environment throughout the lifecycle of our products. From the raw materials we use in our products to their potential end-of-life impact on human health and the environment, including the impact of manufacturing & supply operations, we strive to reduce the potentially negative effects of our activities on climate change, water, waste and biodiversity.
The Opella – Head of Environment, M&S will be responsible to design and roll-out the environmental strategy in all manufacturing & supply operations, including internal manufacturing sites, distribution & transportation and external manufacturing operations (CMO).
He/she will also contribute with other functions to several environmental projects led by the Sustainability team, such as product ecodesign, Scope 3 reduction, and biodiversity in the value chain.
The role reports solid line to the Opella Head of HSE and will be part of the Opella HSE leadership team. The Opella M&S – Head of Environment will provide environmental expertise to the Opella HSE regional heads to ensure the execution of the strategy in the regions/sites and the implementations of performance improvement projects.
Key results / accountabilities
Design & drive the Opella environmental roadmap in the manufacturing & supply organization.
Deploy global programs on water management, wastewater (Pharmaceuticals in the Environment), waste, air emissions, biodiversity, soil & groundwater contamination, ISO14001 certification…
Contribute to the energy & CO2 reduction program (Scope 1&2) led by the engineering teams.
Provide technical expertise & operational support to
- Internal manufacturing sites on all environmental topics. Facilitate contacts with the relevant internal/external experts.
- External manufacturing sites (CMO) on environmental performance improvement programs
- Distribution & transportation operations
Actively contribute to one or several workstreams of the global Sustainability agenda, including certification according to external certification schemes (eg product ecolabels, BCorp).
Consolidate results in terms of environmental performance on leading and lagging KPIs using the company reporting tools. Measure and monitor progress against strategies, objectives and performance targets. Consolidate data and prepare high-level summaries for senior management information and awareness.
Facilitate contacts with the relevant external experts and participate in industry working groups (including advocacy) and external benchmark activities.
Actively contribute to the Opella Global HSE Leadership team activities.

About you
Experience:
- Experience in designing, driving and implementing environmental programs in a multi-site international environment in a Corporate role in a manufacturing industry, including experience in a site operational role
- Technical expertise in several environmental domains such as energy/CO2 reduction, water/wastewater management, waste management, biodiversity, ecodesign (LCA tools, PEFCR, ISO standards, eco-packaging)
- Strong business acumen & understanding to interact with commercial teams and make the connection between business strategy and technical environmental programs
- Able to evolve in a multi-cultural and international environment
- Comfortable to work and cooperate in a matrix organization with multiple stakeholders, different mindsets and ways of working
Soft & technical skills:
- Strong business acumen & understanding to interact with various teams
- Able to evolve in a multi-cultural and international environment, interacting with different sites & organizations
- Leadership skills to interact with business leaders of the organization and recognized capacity to serve as a leader among peers. Be a change agent and skillful influencer.
- Knowledge of Environmental regulations for the main geographies (EU, US).
- The role will imply limited trips to the manufacturing sites to support operational deployment of all the programs.
Education:
- Engineer or Environmental engineering Master's degree with 10-15 years of experience
Languages:
- Fluent spoken and written English as primary language
- French (not a must)
