Context & Environment
As part of its goal to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050, TotalEnergies is strengthening its presence across the entire electricity value chain, with a particular focus on renewable energy and flexible assets. To maximize the value of these assets on short-term markets, TotalEnergies Gas & Power is active from long-term trading to Day-Ahead, intraday, and ancillary services optimization. This is done through a pan-European approach that integrates generation (CCGT, wind, solar), flexibility sources (demand response, batteries), and consumption.
The position is part of the algorithmic trading team based in Paris, working in close coordination with several European sites. The environment is highly volatile and competitive, shaped by economic, political, and climate-related factors. The role operates on a 5-day-a-week basis, with strong collaboration with the intraday trading and dispatching teams, which are active 24/7.
The trader is responsible for algorithmic trading on European short-term power markets and the associated P&L.
Activities
- You will play a central role in the creation of a dedicated algorithmic trading squad, actively contributing to the structuring and launch of this new strategic activity.
- As an Algorithmic Trader, you will directly contribute to the short-term power trading P&L, supporting TotalEnergies Gas & Power’s ambition to become a major player in the European electricity markets.
- You will develop speculative intraday trading strategies in line with the company’s risk management policies and internal compliance rules. You will work closely with IT teams and other internal stakeholders across multiple European sites.
- Your responsibilities will include analyzing and continuously improving existing algorithms, as well as developing new models and short-term predictive signals. You will process and interpret large volumes of data (market data, orders, transactions) to enhance model performance. You will also contribute to the analysis of European market trends in collaboration with the short-term power trading teams, identifying new opportunities.
Candidate Profile
You hold a degree in engineering, mathematics, economics, or finance. With at least three years of experience in short-term power trading and algorithmic strategies, you have developed strong technical expertise, particularly in programming, with a preference for Python. Your analytical approach is advanced, combining modeling, data science, and quantitative rigor.
You thrive in collaborative environments and communicate effectively with multidisciplinary teams. Organized and detail-oriented, you enjoy working in fast-paced and demanding settings. Above all, you are driven by the desire to contribute to an ambitious and entrepreneurial project.
