Our customers in the fields of space, astronomy and large-scale scientific instruments are looking for manufacturers capable of supplying unique, highly complex components such as state-of-the-art optical components, instruments for observing the earth or the universe, or optoelectronic systems.
To meet this challenge, Bertin Technologies is expanding its machine park and strengthening its teams within the Bertin Photonics Division. So join us and become our new Senior optical designer / Scientific instrument architect.
You will be integrated in a photonic and optic engineering team located in Aix En Provence in the south of France.
Your responsibility will be to define the architecture and to steer the optical design of several kinds of scientific instruments like hyperspectral imaging system, space telescope for earth observation, spectrograph for astronomy, optical satellite communication modules, OGSE (Optical Ground Support Equipment), or thermal imaging systems.
In the project team in charge of these instruments, you will be the technical manager and system engineer. As such, you will have the following responsibilities:
- Understanding and refining the requirements of the system to match the technological capabilities of the company
- Choosing the technologies and best suited architecture to achieve performance.
- Designing the optical systems and sub systems. This includes the technical management of junior optical designers. Ideally, you have a good understanding of optical components manufacturing processes and of coatings
- Identifying and mitigating technical risks
- Insuring smooth, efficient, and close collaboration with mechanical engineering and AIT (Assembly Integration and Test) teams
- Providing definition files, justification documents, manufacturing guidelines, and (ICD) Interface Controle Documents
- As a technical manager, your main responsibility will be to have the performance of the system under control, and you will share with the project manager cost and schedule commitments. You will have active participation during external reviews with clients.
Some travels in France and abroad can be expected.
